with Trisha Slay
Hello. My name is Trisha and I’m a writer. I wish it wasn’t so. Truly. I wish I could redirect this passion for storytelling into something more sane and comfortable…like knitting socks or mushroom farming. Unfortunately, writing has proven to be (at least for me) an incurable condition.
So I took classes (Institute of Children’s Literature, Writer’s Online Workshops), joined organizations (Society of Children’s Book Writers & Illustrators, Atlanta Writer’s Club), participated in writing groups and spent more time and money than I care to admit on professional critiques, seminars and conferences to improve my craft.
And it has all paid off! My first novel, entitled Not So Long Ago, Not So Far Away, was released by Deeds Publishing in May 2013.
On good days, I like to think that my novel is comparable to Looking for Alaska by John Green and The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky. If those two books had a Star Wars-obsessed little sister, I’d like to think she would be my novel.
Currently, I live in Dahlonega, GA – very close to the epicenter of the first major US gold rush. Nowadays, the most precious treasure in Dahlonega is the thriving creative community. But I hear tell there’s still plenty of gold in these here hills!
I’m originally from Ohio…by way of the San Francisco Bay Area. (In other words, I drink pop, practice yoga and would like to thank all y’all for taking the time to read my blog.) By day, it’s my job to make sure this country has thousands of opportunities to pause for refreshment. By night, I transform into the crazy, writerly type. (Yes, I know writerly is not a real word. I make up words. If we are going to be friends, you’ll get used to it.)
